About Me

Los Angeles: A New Chapter

After a lifetime of living in NYC I packed my bags and headed out west to Los Angeles to embark on a new chapter in my life.

Since arriving, Sasha Hawkes and I started an all female production company, Iron Skirt Productions, that presented “Iron Skirts Stories” at Moving Arts Theatre in the fall of 2022, and presented “Iron Skirts Stories Salon” at RD Studios in Los Angeles, August 18-19, 2023.

I was cast in multiple zoom and live readings of new plays, began writing my next autobiographical solo show, and am working on my podcast “Sex After” which is being released on October 19, 2023.

Additionally, I’m in talks to produce the LA premiere of “Nice T!ts” — my critically acclaimed autobiographical show about overcoming cancer, and discovering hope, love and the resilience of the human spirit.

This former New Yorker is enjoying sitting at the pool, reflecting on life and art, and saying YES to new opportunities.

Taipei: The Next Chapter

I said YES when asked to teach the Meisner technique at Meisner Studio Taipei (2022-2023). All the students speak Mandarin, I had a translator, and it was incredible. We communicated and made strong connections of the heart without speaking the same language.

My play “Nice T!ts” was translated into Mandarin and performed to sold out houses this past April, 2023. I am overjoyed that we were accepted into Taipei’s Fringe Festival (August 19 & 20, 2023).

We sold out within two hours.

NYC: Chapter One

As I mentioned, I’m a native New Yorker (minus the accent, unless requested). I’ve spent the last 25 years working in many different areas of the entertainment industry: from being an actor and storyteller, to working as a casting director, to writing and producing, to being a professor of acting at a conservatory in NYC. I also went to seminary and became an ordained interfaith minister. I consider myself a true hybrid and believe that all of the above, work together, feed off of each other and give me a unique perspective as an artist. Continuing to work as an actor makes me a more compassionate and insightful teacher, being a playwright makes me a better actor because I deeply respect and honor the written word, and exploring the human condition imbues my work with heart, depth, and authenticity.

I am a proud union member of SAG- AFTRA and Equity.

The New York Times:

Gemini

“Lucille (Amy Marcs) pops in like clockwork, if only to steal the show. With essential Italianate flavor and pitch-perfect timing, Amy Marcs’s irresistible performance does just that.”

“ ‘I’ll just pick,’ Lucille insists, ceaselessly as she wolfs down spaghetti and salad from everyone else’s plate. Such comic business is easily overdone, but Marcs makes it funnier with every reach across the table.”

Kingdom of Earth

“Myrtle is a floozy who dresses outlandishly. She is innocent and she is ditsy. She is a good person and a schemer and she is sexual desire incarnate. She is a Tennessee Williams woman. Amy Marcs plays up the ingenuous Myrtle with a sense of irony that pays off.”

The Sisters Rosensweig

“Amy Marcs’s Gorgeous, the garrulous middle sister, gets all the laughs embedded in the play. Gorgeous is endearingly dotty; but we also see that there is an underlying tension in her life, too.”
